Combined heat and power generation

The Czech abbreviation KVET (English equivalent CHP, used for combined heat and power), used by experts and the public media alike, refers to what is called "cogeneration". Combined heat and power is the most efficient utilization of fuels in the energy sector.

The installations generate electricity and produce waste heat which is then supplied to the central heat supply network.

In many cases cogeneration saves more than 20% on the primary fuel, which significantly reduces pollutant emissions during production, especially those of CO2 a SO2.
