CEO of MVV Jörg Lüdorf and Mayor of Uherské Hradiště Stanislav Blaha have signed a Memorandum of Understanding

The aim of cooperation between MVV Energie CZ a.s. and the City of Uherské Hradiště, co-owners of our subsidiary CTZ s.r.o., is preparation for changing the fuel mix in the coal heating plant in Mařatice. The switchover to other fuels should ensure long-term stable heat prices and minimize the environmental impact of the heating plant, including reducing greenhouse gas emissions and avoiding dust from the current coal dump.

The memorandum on cooperation in the energy solution in Uherské Hradiště is fully in line with the sustainability principles of our entire MVV Group, where we started replacing coal sources with natural gas or cogeneration units a few years ago and we plan to move towards eco-friendly ‚green-heating‘ solutions for the remaining coal facilities by 2030,” says Jörg Lüdorf.

Besides the classical transition from burning coal to natural gas combustion in cogeneration units, in cooperation with the Municipality, variants of natural gas combustion in combination with mixed municipal waste (WtE), and the construction of a biogas plant to dispose of biodegradable municipal waste, will be analyzed. The biogas would then be combusted in cogeneration units.

“The City has a 49% ownership interest in the heating company CTZ. Therefore, we want CTZ to consider options that are in line with the waste management concept of the City of Uherské Hradiště, and have a positive impact on both heat price stability and waste fees, when selecting a new fuel for a heating plant,” says Stanislav Blaha.

The signing of the Memorandum of Understanding on 22 January in Prague was preceded by its discussion and subsequent approval by the Uherské Hradiště city council on Monday 16 December 2019.
